The Best Restaurants in Wichita Falls

Nine Wichita Falls restaurants verified open in 2026, from a farm-to-table garden room on Kemp to a cash-only burrito counter downtown, with hours and phones.

The Short Answer

Fox Hill Restaurant and Gardens on Kemp Boulevard is the best restaurant in Wichita Falls, a farm-to-table dining room that grows part of its own produce and serves dinner four nights a week. McBride's Steakhouse is the steak answer, cooking over mesquite coals since 1992, and Casa Manana downtown has been open since the 1940s.

Fox Hill Restaurant and Gardens

Kemp Boulevard · $$$

Known for A seasonal farm-to-table menu built partly from the restaurant's own garden

Fox Hill is the only kitchen in Wichita Falls doing genuine farm-to-table rather than using the phrase on a menu. Part of the produce comes from the garden outside the dining room and the rest is sourced as close to town as the season allows, which means the menu changes instead of sitting still. The city's own tourism office lists it first among its sit-down rooms.

The trade-off is access. It opens for dinner four nights a week and the service window is short, roughly a three-hour stretch in the evening, so this is a reservation restaurant rather than a walk-in.

Go-to order or tip: Call ahead rather than turning up. A four-night week and a short evening window means a Saturday books out well before the door opens.

Hours
Dinner only, Tuesday through Saturday evenings, closed Sunday and Monday

McBride's Steakhouse

Maplewood Avenue, south Wichita Falls · $$$

Known for Steaks cooked over 100 percent mesquite coals, locally owned since 1992

McBride's has been locally owned and operated since 1992 and it cooks over mesquite coals rather than gas, which is the whole argument for eating steak here instead of at a chain on the access road. The kitchen cuts and cooks in house. There is a second family location downtown on Scott Avenue trading as McBride's Land and Cattle, so check the address you are driving to.

It is a casual steakhouse, not a special-occasion room. Lunch runs a separate midday service most of the week, which makes it the rare place in town where you can get a properly cooked steak at noon.

Go-to order or tip: Weekdays split into a lunch service and a dinner service with the kitchen dark in between. Saturday runs straight through, and Sunday is lunch only.

Hours
Lunch and dinner Monday through Saturday, lunch only on Sunday

Pelican's

Midwestern Parkway · $$$

Known for Hand-cut steaks wet aged at least 21 days, plus the most serious seafood list in town

Pelican's runs the other half of the Wichita Falls special-occasion market. The steaks are wet aged a minimum of 21 days and hand cut on the premises, and the seafood side of the menu is treated as a real menu rather than a concession to people who do not eat beef. It has been a fixture on Midwestern Parkway long enough to be on every local shortlist.

Dinner only, six nights a week, with the kitchen open later on Friday and Saturday. Reservations are taken through the restaurant's own site.

Go-to order or tip: If you are choosing between here and McBride's, come here when somebody at the table wants fish and go there when everybody wants beef.

Hours
Dinner only, closed Sunday, later close on Friday and Saturday

Casa Manana

Downtown, 8th Street · $

Known for The red taco, on a menu the restaurant's own site dates back to 1947

Casa Manana is the oldest restaurant on this list by a wide margin. The business dates itself to 1947 on its own site, which would make it around 79 years old, and it still trades on one dish, the red taco, that locals order by name. The dining room is plain and the prices are low.

Be careful with the name. There is more than one listing in town using some version of Casa Manana, and the one people mean is The Original on 8th Street downtown.

Go-to order or tip: It closes in the early evening rather than staying open late, so this is a lunch or an early dinner. Order the red tacos even if you think you know what a taco is.

Hours
Lunch into the early evening, Monday through Saturday, closed Sunday

The Loft at Picker's

Downtown, Indiana Avenue · $$

Known for American Southern cooking upstairs from an antique store in the historic Filgo Building

The Loft sits above Picker's Universe antique store in the Filgo Building on Indiana Avenue, which is downtown Wichita Falls doing the thing downtown Wichita Falls does well, putting a good kitchen inside an old building that was going to sit empty otherwise. The menu is American Southern, and the room is the draw as much as the food.

Its hours are the least consistent on this list. Published schedules show a split lunch and dinner service on some weekdays and nothing on others, so we are not going to print a week here. Call or check the restaurant's page the day you plan to go.

Go-to order or tip: Go upstairs for lunch and give yourself half an hour in the antique store underneath afterward. The two work as one stop.

Hours
Lunch and dinner on a limited weekday schedule, call for the current pattern

Ronnie's Burgers

Midwestern Parkway · $

Known for Specialty burgers, Frito pie and onion rings from a counter that wins the local burger polls

Ronnie's is the burger everyone in town names first. Its own site claims six straight years as the best burger in Texoma, and it turned up again as the burger pick in the Times Record News Community's Choice Awards for 2025. Those are reader polls rather than critical awards, but in a town this size a reader poll is a fair measure of who is actually eating where.

The menu goes past burgers into Frito pies, tacos, nachos, fried pickles, chicken sandwiches and shakes. It is a counter, not a restaurant, and it closes on Sunday.

Go-to order or tip: Order the onion rings alongside rather than fries. They are the side the polls keep singling out.

Hours
Monday through Saturday, late morning into the evening, closed Sunday

Mia's Italian Bistro

Beverly Drive · $$

Known for Cream-heavy house pastas and baked pizzas, made to order in a small room

Mia's is the independent Italian option, a small room on Beverly Drive turning out baked pizzas and rich house pastas to order. It is the sort of restaurant that lives or dies on repeat customers, and the volume of local reviews across several platforms suggests it has them.

It runs one long service most days instead of splitting lunch and dinner, which makes it useful at the awkward hours when the steakhouses are closed.

Go-to order or tip: It is small and it does not take a large party easily. Go early or plan to wait on a Friday.

Hours
Monday through Saturday, late morning into the evening, closed Sunday

Willie's Place

10th Street · $

Known for A weekday plate-lunch counter doing burgers and smoked meats side by side

Willie's is a lunch counter first. Sources describe the menu two different ways, as burgers and as barbecue, and the honest answer is that it does both, which is why it turns up on local shortlists for each. Portions are generous and the prices are the lowest of the sit-down places here.

Its schedule is weekday-heavy and the published weekend hours do not agree across sources, so treat this as a Monday-to-Friday option and call before a Saturday drive.

Go-to order or tip: This is a working-lunch restaurant, so the rush is the middle of the day. Arrive before noon or after one.

Hours
Weekdays, late morning into the early evening, weekend service limited

The Burrito Shop

Downtown, 9th Street · $

Known for Oversized breakfast burritos, cash only, from a family counter open since 1994

The Burrito Shop has been a downtown counter since 1994, and Texoma's Homepage has covered it as a family business built on regulars. The chorizo, egg and cheese and the sausage and egg burritos are the standards, and the portions are the reason people plan a morning around it.

It is cash only and it closes in the early afternoon, which are the two facts worth knowing before you drive over.

Go-to order or tip: Bring cash and come before noon. Saturday closes earliest of the open days.

Hours
Mornings into early afternoon, Tuesday through Saturday, closed Sunday and Monday

How did we pick these?

We worked from the Discover Wichita Falls restaurant listings, which is the city's own tourism office, then required a second independent source for every entry before it went on the page. Each restaurant's address and phone were checked against its own site where it has one, and against at least two directory listings where it does not.

There are no partners, clients or sponsored entries on this page. The scaffolding script matched no client for Wichita Falls and restaurants, so nothing was pre-filled, nothing was promoted, and nothing was cut for a relationship.

The cuts matter more than the inclusions here. Bricktown Tap House and Kitchen turns up near the top of most Wichita Falls searches and it is a real restaurant with a real address at Sikes Center, but it is a location of Bricktown Brewery, an Oklahoma chain, and we are not going to rank a regional chain above nine independents in a city that has nine good independents. Red Lobster came up the same way and went the same way. We also pulled restaurants that appeared on aggregator lists without a verifiable current address.

Where sources disagreed, we printed the pattern rather than a number. That is why The Loft at Picker's and Willie's Place carry descriptions of their schedules instead of a day-by-day list, and why Casa Manana's founding year is attributed to the restaurant's own site rather than stated as fact.

What should you know before you go?

Wichita Falls closes early and it closes on Sunday. That is the single most useful thing to know, and it catches visitors constantly.

Restaurant Price Best for Closed
Fox Hill $$$ A booked dinner Sunday and Monday
McBride's Steakhouse $$$ Steak, including at lunch Sunday evening
Pelican's $$$ Steak and seafood together Sunday
Casa Manana $ Cheap early dinner downtown Sunday
The Loft at Picker's $$ Lunch in an old building Varies, call
Ronnie's Burgers $ The burger Sunday
Mia's Italian Bistro $$ Pasta at an odd hour Sunday
Willie's Place $ A weekday plate lunch Weekends, mostly
The Burrito Shop $ Breakfast, cash only Sunday and Monday

Two of the nine are dinner only. Two more are effectively lunch only. If you are in town for one night and you want a real meal, the plan is Fox Hill or Pelican's with a phone call first. If you are here for a workday, the plan is The Burrito Shop in the morning, Willie's or The Loft at midday, and Ronnie's when you want something at eight in the evening.

Bring cash for The Burrito Shop. It is the only cash-only stop on the list, and it is the one most likely to catch you out.

Where does the local dining scene actually sit?

Wichita Falls supports more independent restaurants than a city of its size usually can, and Sheppard Air Force Base is a large part of why. That shows up in the mix. There are two locally owned steakhouses cutting in house, an unusual number of independent burger counters, and a farm-to-table room that would be a going concern in Fort Worth.

What it does not have much of is late service or a Sunday scene. The restaurants here are run by owners who work the floor, and owner-operated kitchens close on the seventh day. That is a feature of the town rather than a failing of the restaurants, and it is worth planning around rather than discovering at seven on a Sunday evening.

What should you do next?

Pick the meal first, then the restaurant. If it is dinner and it matters, call Fox Hill today for the night you want. If it is a weekday and you are just eating, go to Willie's or The Loft and save the steakhouses for a night you are not driving home.

Everything else we publish on the city collects on the Wichita Falls city hub. If you are working across North Texas, the Sherman restaurant list covers the next city east on the Red River, and Abilene restaurants picks up the drive southwest. The full restaurants category has every Texas town we have ranked so far.

Frequently Asked Questions

Burgers and steak, mostly. The city has an unusual number of independent burger counters for its size, Ronnie's and Willie's among them, and two locally owned steakhouses that both cut in house. Sheppard Air Force Base traffic helps support more restaurants than the population alone would.

Very few. McBride's Steakhouse runs a Sunday lunch service and stops after it. Fox Hill, Pelican's, Casa Manana, Ronnie's, Mia's and The Burrito Shop are all closed Sunday, so Sunday dinner in Wichita Falls means chains or hotel dining.

For Fox Hill, yes. Its dinner-only schedule is four nights a week in a small room. Pelican's takes reservations through its own site and is worth booking on a Friday or Saturday. Everywhere else on this list takes walk-ins.

The Burrito Shop downtown, which opens mornings Tuesday through Saturday and closes in the early afternoon. It is cash only. Nothing else on this list serves a proper breakfast, since the rest open at lunch or dinner.

Yes, for a couple of hours. Casa Manana, The Loft at Picker's and The Burrito Shop are all within a few blocks of each other near the Indiana Avenue and 8th Street corridor, and the restored downtown blocks are the most interesting part of the city on foot.

Roughly two hours northwest of Fort Worth on Highway 287, and a little over two hours from Dallas. It sits about fifteen miles south of the Oklahoma line, which is why local lists talk about Texoma rather than North Texas.
