The Best Auto Repair Shops in Paris, Texas

Nine auto repair shops in Paris, Texas checked against AAA and BBB records, chamber listings and state files, ranked on credentials and what each does best.

The Very Best of Texas Editors 4 min read How we rank →

The Short Answer

Precision Automotive & Transmission on North Main is the strongest all-around auto repair shop in Paris, Texas, and the only one here we could confirm holds AAA Approved Auto Repair status. Advanced Automotive & Diesel is the pick for diesel trucks and farm equipment. Kwik Kar of Paris has the longest weekday hours and does state inspections.

Precision Automotive & Transmission

North Main Street · $$

Known for The only Paris shop we could confirm holds AAA Approved Auto Repair status

AAA does not hand its Approved Auto Repair badge out on request. A shop has to pass an inspection of its equipment, technician certifications, insurance and customer records, and then submit to AAA's complaint arbitration. Precision carries a facility listing in AAA's own approved-shop locator, which no other Paris repair shop we checked does, and AAA members get a parts and labor discount there as part of the arrangement.

On top of that it is an ASE certified facility that says it staffs four ASE Master Technicians, it is carried in the Auto Value service center network, and it backs most work with a three year or 36,000 mile parts-and-labor warranty. That warranty is the longest any shop in Paris publishes, and it is the practical reason to start here for anything expensive like a transmission rebuild or an engine job.

Go-to order or tip: Directory listings disagree about whether the shop closes over lunch, so call before you drive out for a midday drop-off.

Hours
Weekdays plus Saturday morning, closed Sunday

Advanced Automotive & Diesel

Lamar Road, east of town toward Reno · $$

Known for Diesel trucks, farm equipment and gas engines under one roof

This is the shop to call when the thing that broke is a work truck or a tractor rather than a commuter car. Advanced handles diesel engine work, transmission rebuilds, air conditioning and farm equipment alongside ordinary gas service, which is a wider brief than any other general shop on this list attempts. It is an ASE certified shop and an AC Delco Professional Service Center, and it is listed in the Auto Value network as Advanced Auto and Diesel of Paris.

Its Better Business Bureau file was opened on 31 March 2009 and names Jason Scott as owner. Note that the BBB files the business under Reno, the adjoining town, while its street address reads Paris, so searching the wrong city will make it look like it does not exist. The shop's own site claims Scott was voted best mechanic by The Paris News ten years running, which we report as their claim rather than as a figure we could confirm, and its stated warranty is one year or 12,000 miles on parts and labor.

Go-to order or tip: Ask what the warranty covers on a major diesel job before work starts. Public reviews split on exactly what the twelve month term includes.

Hours
Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., closed weekends

Jason Henry's Auto Repair

21st Street NE · $$

Known for A quarter century in the same trade carrying an A+ rating from the BBB

Jason Henry's has the longest continuous complaint record of any independent shop in Paris, and the record is clean. Its Better Business Bureau file was opened on 29 October 2004, the BBB puts it at 25 years in business, and it holds an A+ rating. It is not BBB accredited, which is a paid program rather than a quality mark, so the A+ is the meaningful number here.

It is a small operation, roughly two to five people, working on general repair with ASE certified mechanics, and that scale is the point. There is no service advisor layer between you and the person holding the wrench. Directories carry it under both Jason Henry's Auto Repair and Henry Jason Auto Repair, and at least one listing puts it on 20th Street rather than 21st, so use the phone number as your anchor.

Go-to order or tip: A two-bay shop books out fast. Call Monday for the same week rather than turning up with a car that already will not start.

Hours
Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., closed weekends

Road Runner Service & Tire

North Main Street · $$

Known for European and Asian makes that most shops in this market will not touch

Road Runner is the oldest shop on this list. Its BBB file records a business start date of 1 January 1983, which makes it 43 years in the same trade, and it is one of the few repair shops carried in the Lamar County Chamber of Commerce directory rather than only in aggregators. Scott Hern is listed as owner and Christie Hern as the management contact.

What separates it is the list of makes. Alongside the usual domestic and Japanese work it publishes service pages for Audi, BMW, Land Rover, Mercedes-Benz, Jaguar, Porsche, Volvo and Volkswagen. In a town of 25,000 that is genuinely unusual, and it means a European car does not automatically mean a drive to Plano. It also sells and fits tires, so a set of tires and a brake job happen in one visit.

Go-to order or tip: The 4.30 p.m. finish is the earliest of any shop here. Aim for a morning drop-off rather than assuming a five o'clock pick-up.

Hours
Monday to Friday 7.30 a.m. to 4.30 p.m., closed weekends

Taber Automotive

Northwest Loop 286 · $$

Known for A purpose-built 5,000 square foot shop finished in 2024

Taber has been trading since 2012 and is a Lamar County Chamber member and an Auto Value service center. The reason it is worth a call now rather than three years ago is the building. A Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation project record covers construction of a 5,000 square foot auto repair facility at 1520 NW Loop 286, with work running from March to August 2024, which is the shop it operates from today.

The work covered is broad for an independent, taking in diesel and gas engines, transmissions, axles and transfer cases, front end and steering, electrical, brakes and air conditioning, on cars, trucks and commercial vehicles. Its own web domain is not currently resolving, so its Facebook page is the live channel. Older listings still show the previous address at 2360 Spur 139, which is the wrong door now.

Go-to order or tip: Ignore the Spur 139 address in older directory results. The current shop is the newer building on the northwest loop.

Hours
Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Stephen's Automotive & Diesel

North Main near downtown · $$

Known for Free diagnostics and a written estimate before you commit to the job

Stephen's advertises free diagnostics and free estimates, which matters more than it sounds in a market where a diagnostic fee of a hundred dollars or so is the norm before anybody tells you what is wrong. If you have a warning light and no idea whether you are facing a sensor or a head gasket, this is the cheapest way to find out.

It is a family run LLC covering general auto and diesel repair, tune-ups, air conditioning, brakes, alignment, mufflers and exhaust, transmission work and oil changes, and it takes same-day and walk-in appointments. Its position at 608 North Main puts it closer to downtown than anything else on this list, which is the practical advantage if you work in the square and want to walk back. Its own website domain is not currently resolving, so call or use the Facebook page.

Go-to order or tip: Free estimate is not free labor. Get the quote in writing and ask which parts are new and which are remanufactured.

Hours
Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., closed weekends

Paul Green's Complete Auto Repair

Bonham Street · $$

Known for A long-running independent with an ASE certified technician on the floor

Paul Green's is one of the older independents in Paris and its state taxpayer record ties the business to Paul Dean Green Jr at the Bonham Street address. The shop describes an ASE certified technician with more than 25 years in the trade and covers water pumps, air conditioning, brakes, timing belts and head gaskets, which is the bread and butter of an older fleet.

Public reviews are strong on the repair work and on turnaround, with customers describing same-day water pump and radiator jobs, and they are mixed on front-of-house communication. Its web domain no longer resolves, so treat the phone number as the contact of record. We have not published hours because directories split on whether it opens Saturday.

Go-to order or tip: Ask what the guarantee is when you book. The shop advertises guaranteed work, but the term is not published anywhere we could check.

Big Brand Tire & Service

Bonham Street · $$

Known for Tires, exhaust and alignment from a shop trading on this corner since 1973

This was Hicks Muffler & Tire, family run in Paris since 1973 and covered by The Paris News in 2018 when it marked 45 years as a U-Haul dealer, the oldest in North Texas at the time. It now trades as Big Brand Tire & Service, part of a chain of more than 170 stores across 15 states, at the same Bonham Street address and on the same phone number.

We are listing it under its current name rather than the one on the old sign, because that is what you will find it under. The work is tires, alignments, oil changes, inspections, exhaust, shocks and struts and lift kits rather than deep engine diagnostics, so treat it as the place for everything that touches the wheels and the underside, not for an intermittent electrical fault.

Go-to order or tip: Exhaust work is the legacy skill here. If your problem is a rotten muffler or a broken hanger, start on this corner.

Kwik Kar of Paris

Lamar Avenue · $

Known for The longest weekly hours in town plus official Texas state inspections

Every full-service independent in Paris shuts at five and none of them opens on Saturday. Kwik Kar runs to six on weekdays and to four on Saturday, which makes it the only option on this list if you cannot take a weekday off work. It is an official Texas vehicle inspection station, so the annual inspection and an oil change are one stop.

It is a franchise rather than an independent, operated within the Kwik Kar North Texas group, and it does more than quick lube, listing tires, brakes and mechanical repair alongside the oil-change business. We have not published a phone number because directories carry two different ones for this address, and an older Kwik Kar Lube & Tune listing at the same address still shows as closed on some aggregators, which is stale rather than current.

Go-to order or tip: Use it for inspections, fluids and tires. For a diagnosis on an intermittent fault, one of the independents above is the better first call.

Hours
Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., closed Sunday

How did we pick these?

We started from every auto repair business with a Paris address across Yelp, CARFAX, Yellow Pages and the Lamar County Chamber directory, then threw away anything we could not stand behind. What survived had to clear three tests. The business had to be confirmably trading now, it had to do mechanical repair rather than only sell parts, and it had to have at least one record about it that the business did not write itself.

That last test did most of the cutting. A shop's own website will tell you it is the best in town. A Better Business Bureau file with an opening date, a chamber membership, a state building permit, or a newspaper story is a fact somebody else recorded. Precision Automotive is first because AAA's approved-facility program is the only credential in this market with an inspection and an arbitration process behind it. Jason Henry's and Road Runner rank where they do on BBB file dates and trading history rather than star averages.

There are no partners, sponsors or paid placements on this list. Hello Web Designs, which publishes this site, has no client in the auto trade anywhere in Lamar County, so nothing here was pre-filled and nothing was removed.

We published no review counts or star averages at all, because the aggregators disagree wildly on the same shops. Paul Green's shows 88, 64 and 52 reviews on three different sites on the same day. We also left out three phone numbers and one street address where sources conflicted, and said so on each card rather than picking the likelier-looking one. Body shops and collision repair are a different trade and are not on this list.

What should you know before you go?

The single most useful fact about this market is the clock. Every full-service independent in Paris is a weekday operation that closes at five or earlier, and Road Runner shuts at 4.30 p.m.. If your car dies on a Friday afternoon, you are waiting until Monday unless you go to the franchise.

Shop Best for Latest weekday Saturday
Precision Automotive & Transmission Big jobs under a long warranty 5 p.m. Mornings
Advanced Automotive & Diesel Diesel trucks and farm equipment 5 p.m. Closed
Jason Henry's Auto Repair General repair, clean BBB record 5 p.m. Closed
Road Runner Service & Tire European and Asian makes, tires 4.30 p.m. Closed
Taber Automotive Drivetrain and electrical, new shop 5 p.m. Closed
Stephen's Automotive & Diesel A free diagnosis before you commit 5 p.m. Closed
Big Brand Tire & Service Tires, alignment, exhaust Call Call
Kwik Kar of Paris Inspections and fluids after work 6 p.m. To 4 p.m.

Two other things worth knowing. North Main Street between the loop and downtown is where four of these shops sit within about two miles of each other, so a second opinion is a short drive rather than a project. And warranty terms vary more than price does here. Precision publishes three years or 36,000 miles, Advanced publishes one year or 12,000 miles, and most of the rest publish nothing at all, which is a question worth asking before the work starts rather than after.

What if you need a specialist rather than a general shop?

Paris supports a few single-trade shops that will beat a generalist on their one job. Pat Bright Transmission Repair at 912 North Main Street does transmissions and nothing else. Paris Alternator & Starter Service works the charging system, though its listings give more than one address on the Highway 271 corridor, so call first. Tire City Discount Center at 601 North Main Street covers tires and wheels for Paris, Clarksville and Hugo, and it is one of the few places open on a Saturday morning.

For everything else around town, the Paris city hub collects our Lamar County guides. If you are new here and working through a list of trades, the Paris HVAC companies guide and the Paris roofers guide were researched the same way.

What should you do next?

Call Precision Automotive and one independent close to you on the same morning, describe the symptom rather than the repair you think you need, and ask two questions. What is the diagnostic fee, and what is the warranty on parts and labor. Those two answers will separate these shops faster than any amount of review reading, because in a market this size availability and warranty terms are the real differences.

If the job is a diesel truck or a tractor, skip that and call Advanced Automotive & Diesel first. If it is an inspection, a set of tires or an oil change and you cannot get away from work, Kwik Kar on Lamar Avenue is the only place here that will still be open. Our auto repair category carries the same research for other Texas towns as we publish it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Kwik Kar of Paris on Lamar Avenue is an official Texas vehicle inspection station and is the easiest one to reach outside normal working hours. Big Brand Tire on Bonham Street also lists inspections among its services. Several of the independents will inspect as well, but they do not all advertise it, so ask when you call.

Yes. Precision Automotive & Transmission at 2675 North Main Street carries a facility listing in AAA's Approved Auto Repair locator, and it is the only shop in Paris we could confirm holds that status. AAA members get a discount on parts and labor there, and AAA will arbitrate a dispute over work done at an approved facility.

Advanced Automotive & Diesel on Lamar Road is the most specialised option, covering diesel engines, transmissions and farm equipment as well as ordinary gas service. Taber Automotive on the northwest loop and Stephen's Automotive & Diesel on North Main both carry diesel work too. All three are weekday-only operations.

Precision Automotive & Transmission, Advanced Automotive & Diesel and Taber Automotive all publish transmission and rebuild work. There is also a dedicated transmission specialist, Pat Bright Transmission Repair at 912 North Main Street on (903) 785-3445, which does nothing else, though it keeps shorter hours than the general shops.

Very few. Kwik Kar of Paris runs Saturday until 4 p.m. and Precision Automotive opens Saturday mornings. Tire City Discount Center at 601 North Main Street opens Saturday until 12.30 p.m. for tire work. Directories disagree about Paul Green's Saturday hours, so call that one rather than turning up.

We have deliberately published no labor rates, because no shop in Paris publishes one publicly and every figure floating around online comes from lead-generation sites rather than the shops themselves. Ask for the hourly rate and the diagnostic fee on the phone before you book. Stephen's Automotive advertises free diagnostics and estimates, which is the exception here.
