How did we pick these?
The spine of this list is the Texarkana Gazette's 2026 Readers' Choice Awards, published four days before we wrote this. That is the only recent, locally voted ranking of Mexican food in this city, and it gave us the Mexican Food winner, the Queso winner and the Chips and Salsa and Margarita winner. We cross-checked every name against review data from Restaurantji and KTAL's review-based roundup, then went looking for each restaurant's own website.
That last step is where Texarkana gets difficult. Only two restaurants here publish their own site, Loca Luna and the TaMolly's chain. For the rest, the addresses come from directories that agree with each other, and we have said so in each entry rather than presenting a scraped address as verified fact. Where we could not settle a detail, we left it out. Amigo Juan has no street number above because two directories give two different streets in the same cluster off I-30 and nothing the business publishes resolves it.
Everything on this list is a Texas-side address, consistent with the rest of our Texarkana coverage. No business here has any relationship with us, and we were not paid for any placement.
What should you know before you go?
The two things that will trip you up are the state line and the hours. Several of these families run restaurants on both sides, so the name on the sign does not tell you which state you are standing in, and most of these kitchens close early.
| Restaurant | Texas side | Opens | Closes | Style |
| Loca Luna | Yes, two rooms | 11 a.m. | 9.30 or 10 p.m. | Sit-down Tex-Mex |
| Los Ruvalcaba | Yes, three rooms | Around 11 a.m. | Unverified | Taqueria |
| Colima's | Yes | 8.30 a.m. | 7.30 p.m. | Counter and plates |
| Taco Trip | Yes | 10.30 a.m. | Before 8 p.m. | Taqueria |
| Amigo Juan | Yes | Unverified | Unverified | Tex-Mex |
| Tacos Mi Pueblo | Yes | Weekends only | Evening | Traditional |
| TaMolly's | Yes | Unverified | Unverified | Chain Tex-Mex |
Loca Luna is the only one of these we would call a reservation-free dinner plan with table service and a bar, and it is the only one open past 9.30. If you want a late Mexican meal in Texarkana, it is that or the Arkansas side.
One cheap tip. House margaritas are $3.99 on Thursdays at every Loca Luna location, dine in only, which is the best drink deal we found in either state.
What about the Arkansas side?
Worth crossing for, and we will say so plainly rather than pretend the state line is a wall. Zapata Grill and Mexican Cantina at 217 Walnut St in Texarkana, Arkansas, took both Chips and Salsa and Margarita in the Gazette's 2026 awards and was a Mexican Food nominee on top of that. It sits downtown across Walnut Street from the Arkansas municipal building, and Tripadvisor has it at 4.3 across 279 reviews, the largest review base of any Mexican restaurant in the metro.
Two other Arkansas-side rooms come up repeatedly. Los Ruvalcaba runs a location at 4300 N State Line Ave, and La Fogata sits at 4.2 across 18 reviews with its chicken enchiladas doing the work. Loca Luna's own sister restaurant, Luna Llena at 4018 N State Line Ave, runs weekday specials the Texas rooms do not, including two enchiladas with rice and beans for $7.49 on Mondays.
None of those are on the ranked list above because this is a Texas guide and the city hub they would file under is on the Texas side. That is an editorial line, not a judgment on the cooking.
What should you do next?
For one Mexican dinner in Texarkana with table service, go to Loca Luna on Moores Lane and order the fajitas, or the quesabirria tacos if the special is still running. For the best taco in town, go to Los Ruvalcaba on Texas Boulevard and ask for al pastor. For a cheap weekday breakfast almost nobody writes about, Colima's on Summerhill opens at 8.30.
If you are planning a wider trip, our guide to the best restaurants in Texarkana covers the barbecue, steak and seafood side of the city, the Texarkana city hub collects everything we have published here, and the best Mexican restaurants in Texas hub puts this city next to the rest of the state, including nearby Longview, whose Mexican scene is deeper than Texarkana's.
