How did we pick these?
Seguin is the easiest town we have researched in a while, because it has one obvious answer at the top and a visitor bureau that actually publishes addresses, phone numbers and hours. We worked from the Visit Seguin directory, pulled each business listing individually, and cross-checked the rankings and openings against KSAT, the Seguin Economic Development Corporation, Community Impact and Edible Austin.
Burnt Bean ranks first on a statewide verdict rather than ours. Texas Monthly put it at number one in Texas on the 2025 Top 50, up from number 4 when it debuted in 2021, and both KSAT and the city's own EDC reported it. We have taken the Michelin Guide listings and the James Beard semifinalist years from the restaurant's own site and labelled them that way, because we read them there rather than in the awarding bodies' own announcements.
What we cut: Power Plant Texas Bar and Grill, which Visit Seguin recommends for riverside family dining but which carries noticeably weaker public ratings than everything above, and Lola's Mexican Food, where we could not confirm a phone number from any source we trust. We checked both rather than padding the list with them.
No partner or client of ours appears here. Hello Web Designs has not built a website for any business in Guadalupe County, so this is a pure editorial list.
What should you know before you go?
The whole town turns on Burnt Bean's schedule. It is open Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday only, it closes at 3pm, and it stops earlier when the meat runs out. If you drive to Seguin on a Monday for barbecue you will not get any, and the fallback is Schulze's.
The good news is that Burnt Bean, Blackdoor and 1916 Bar and Bistro all sit within two blocks of each other on Austin Street, with Ebi-Ebi a block east on Court. You can park once and cover the best of downtown on foot.
| Restaurant | Best for | Price | Open until |
| Burnt Bean Co | The best barbecue in Texas | $$ | 3pm, Thursday to Sunday |
| The Blackdoor Steakhouse | A steak dinner downtown | $$$ | Evenings, Wednesday to Sunday |
| 1916 Bar and Bistro | Rooftop, cocktails, dinner | $$ | 9pm or 10pm |
| Schulze's Pit Room | Evening barbecue, patio music | $$ | 8pm, 9pm Friday and Saturday |
| Ebi-Ebi Sushi | Sushi, the latest kitchen | $$ | 10pm Friday and Saturday |
| Alex's Tacos | 6am breakfast tacos | $ | 2pm, seven days |
| The 1838 Grill | American comfort food | $$ | Varies, call first |
| Kirby's Korner | Burgers, drive-thru | $ | 9pm, closed Sunday |
Sunday is the odd day. Burnt Bean does its breakfast service, Ebi-Ebi closes at 4pm, and Kirby's is shut entirely. Plan a Sunday around that early Burnt Bean slot and you get the best meal of the week with the shortest line.
What else is near Seguin?
Seguin sits about 35 miles east of San Antonio on Interstate 10 and roughly 20 miles southeast of New Braunfels, which makes it a genuine day trip from either. If you are working the corridor, the best restaurants in New Braunfels covers the next town north, and Gruene Hall and the Gruene historic district is the obvious evening to pair with a Seguin lunch.
What should you do next?
Drive to Seguin for a Thursday or Sunday Burnt Bean service, get there early, and walk the two blocks of Austin Street afterward. If you are staying for the evening, book the rooftop at 1916 or a table at Blackdoor. Keep Schulze's in your pocket for the day you arrive too late, which eventually happens to everybody.
The Seguin city guide collects what else we publish on the town, and the best restaurants in Texas city by city is the same research run everywhere else we cover.
