How did we pick these?
Mineola has about 4,500 people, so the honest answer to how many restaurants are worth naming here is six, not ten. We would rather publish six we can stand behind than pad the list with the Whataburger on the loop.
The strong sources came first. The Dallas Observer wrote up East Texas Burger Co, The East Texas Weekend went back in May 2026 and called it the oldest dining room in town, Texas Monthly carries listings for both Kitchens and CowBurners, KLTV filed on Kitchens Hardware and the 1899 founding, and KETK covered the change of ownership there in November 2024. Val's publishes its own menu with prices. Beyond that it thins out fast, and the last two entries are ranked where they are precisely because the sourcing behind them is weaker, which we have said on each one rather than hiding it.
What we cut matters. Tomatillos Mexican and Italian on West Broad has a Facebook page carrying a note about closing for lack of business, with no date on it, so we will not send anyone there. Jorgie's appears in a search suggestion and nowhere else, no address, no menu, no listing. DownTown Pizza and More at 118 West Broad shows up on one map listing with no reviews, no hours and no second source, and we already have a better pizza answer two blocks away. Cafe U is in a chamber directory entry we could not open and nowhere else. Jalapeno Tree at 416 East Broad is real, open and perfectly fine, and it is a regional chain with locations across East Texas, so it tells you nothing about Mineola. The Dairy Queen and the Pecan House both get a mention in the Wood County Monitor's sweets coverage and neither is a restaurant in the sense this list means.
No business on this list is a client of ours. Nothing in our client file matched Mineola and restaurants, so this is a straight editorial ranking with no partner placements to disclose.
What should you know before you go?
Four of the six are on Broad Street, which is Highway 80 running through the middle of town, and three of those four sit within a single block. That is the whole trip. Park once, walk, and you have burgers, a hardware store deli and a pizza room in sight of each other, with the barbecue around the corner on North Johnson.
The planning problem is the week, not the distance. Sunday is nearly dead and the early part of the week is unreliable.
| Restaurant | Where | Kind | Own site or menu | Hours confidence |
| East Texas Burger Co | 126 E Broad St | Burgers | No | High, seven days, Sunday to 3pm |
| CowBurners BBQ | 109 N Johnson St | Barbecue and taproom | No | Low, closed early week, call first |
| Kitchens Hardware & Deli | 119 E Broad St | Deli and comfort food | No | Medium, daytime trade |
| Val's Italian | 130 E Broad St | Pizza and pasta | Yes, with prices | High, 11am to 9pm |
| Logan's Place | 536 E Broad St | Burgers and sandwiches | No | Low, nothing published |
| Paredes Family | 304 W Broad St | Buffet, Tex-Mex and Southern | No | Low, mid morning open |
One more thing worth knowing. Mineola is a stop on Amtrak's Texas Eagle, which means you can arrive here without a car, and Broad Street is a short walk from the depot. Very few East Texas towns this size can say that.
What should you do next?
Go on a Saturday, because it is the only day the whole list is plausibly open at once. Start with a burger at East Texas Burger Co and leave a napkin on the wall, walk two doors to look at the hardware store at Kitchens, and finish at CowBurners when the taps are on. That is Mineola in about four hours.
Then do the other half of the town. Our guide to the best antique shops in Mineola covers the vendor malls on Line and Broad, which is what most people actually drive here for, and the sweets shops named in the legislature's resolution are on the same two streets. The Mineola city hub collects everything we publish here, and the best restaurants category has the same treatment for other Texas towns. If you want a bigger dinner the same evening, the best restaurants in Tyler is 30 miles southeast down Highway 69.
