How did we pick these?
There are no partners, clients or sponsored entries on this list. No business in clients.json operates a restaurant in Hunt County, so nothing was pre-filled and nothing was cut for a relationship. Every pick here is an editorial one.
The filter was simple. A restaurant had to have a street address inside Greenville that agrees across at least two independent records, and it had to be confirmably open right now. That second test did most of the work. Empty Glass Steakhouse still ranks near the top of several aggregator lists for Greenville, and it has been closed for more than a year. Luanne's Mary of Puddin Hill, the candy and bakery landmark, shut its Greenville store at the end of August 2025 after the flagship in Palestine sold. Neither belongs on a 2026 list, and both are still being served to people searching.
We also cut a restaurant that does not exist. A widely syndicated listicle recommends "Taqueria El Paisano" in Greenville as a local favorite. There are Taqueria El Paisano locations in Dallas, Richardson and McAllen. There is not one in Greenville. That is the kind of thing that happens when a list is generated rather than researched.
Landon Winery at 2508 Lee Street is worth knowing about but is not on the list, because it is no longer a restaurant. It dropped its bistro menu and now serves wine with cheese and crackers rather than food.
What should you know before you go?
Greenville eats early. Three of the ten close at or before three in the afternoon, and the barbecue closes when the meat runs out. If you arrive at seven expecting choice, you have about four real options.
| Restaurant | Best meal | Where | Price |
| 1846 | Dinner, occasion | Johnson and Lee | $$$ |
| The Ashen Rose | Late weeknight dinner | Lee St downtown | $$ |
| Luke's | Breakfast, lunch | Lee St downtown | $$ |
| C B's Sandwich Shop | Lunch | Wesley St | $ |
| Dodie's Cajun Kitchen | Dinner, patio | Farmers Market | $$ |
| Fiddle & Fork | Early breakfast | Uptown Forum | $ |
| Burns BBQ | Weekend lunch | Highway 34 | $$ |
One address confuses everybody, so note it now. Fiddle & Fork and Brothers Cafe are both at 2610 Lee Street. They are two separate kitchens inside Uptown Forum, the restored 1916 Perkins Brothers Department Store that a local couple bought in 1978 and filled with shops and studios. Map apps will send you to the same door for both. Fiddle & Fork runs mornings until three, Brothers runs lunch into the evening.
Where should you eat downtown versus out on Wesley Street?
Downtown Lee Street is where the interesting cooking is. 1846, The Ashen Rose, Luke's, Dodie's, La Catrina and both Uptown Forum kitchens sit within a few blocks of each other, which means you can park once and choose when you get there.
Wesley Street is the highway strip, and it holds two things worth the drive. C B's has been selling burgers in Greenville since 1941 and moved to its current building in the 1980s. Tortilleria La Norteñita makes tortillas on site and opens before eight, which no downtown kitchen except Fiddle & Fork does.
A few good places did not make the ten. Texas Cafe Diner at 5202 Wesley Street runs long hours and serves breakfast all day. El Rey Seafood Shack at 2810 Johnson Street is a real independent doing Mexican-style seafood. Bottlecap Alley Icehouse Grill on Wesley is fine for burgers and televised sport, but it is an outpost of a small Texas chain rather than a Greenville original, so it lost the last spot to places that only exist here.
What should you do next?
If you have one dinner in Greenville, book 1846 and eat downtown. If you have one lunch, go to C B's for the Egg Burger and hand-cut fries, then walk the Lee Street block afterwards. If you are staying the weekend, the best single day is breakfast at Fiddle & Fork, barbecue at Burns before it sells out, and the Dodie's patio in the evening.
