The Best Wedding Venues in Denton

Monroe Pearson is a restored industrial building turned event venue, close enough to the Square that guests can walk from downtown hotels, bars and restaurants. Directory listings put its ceiling at roughly 350 guests, which is the largest private wedding capacity inside Denton's downtown core. It runs on all inclusive packages through Walters Wedding Estates, so catering, bar and coordination come bundled rather than hired piece by piece.

The draw is the combination. Brick and steel that photographs well, getting ready suites on site, and a floor plan that lets a ceremony flip to a reception while the cocktail hour runs in the foyer. The Denton Record-Chronicle covered its arrival downtown as an industrial space built for the city's own crowd.

This is the building Denton is known for. O'Neil Ford designed it with Arch B. Swank Jr., National Youth Administration trainees built it during the Depression, and Texas Woman's University art students made the stained glass, woodwork, doors and light fixtures themselves. Eleanor Roosevelt gave the principal address at its dedication on November 1, 1939.

It seats around 110, so it is a ceremony venue rather than a full wedding site. TWU rents the chapel and the gardens through its special events office and has other campus rooms, including historic Hubbard Hall, for the reception afterward. The office lists discounts for TWU alumni and for military and veteran couples.

Sunago Bell is the only wedding venue in Denton where the view is the decor. The room sits at the top of the old Wells Fargo building on the Square, holds up to 200 guests, and runs about 300 individually hand blown glass bulbs above the aisle. The venue is woman run and is a member of both the Denton Chamber and the Denton Main Street Association.

Because it is a single large room on one floor, it suits a ceremony and reception in the same space with a flip, or a cocktail style reception after a church ceremony elsewhere in town. An in house bar, sound system, tables and tableware come with the room.

Wildwood Inn is a boutique inn on wooded grounds a few minutes south of the Square, with gardens, glass doors onto the greenery and a carved fireplace in the dining room. It takes about 120 guests, which makes it the natural pick for a wedding that is deliberately small rather than a scaled down big one.

The fourteen guest rooms are the real differentiator. Out of town family can check in the night before, the getting ready photos happen upstairs, and nobody drives after the reception. Catering is in house and the venue is listed in the Denton Chamber directory as both a bed and breakfast and a wedding venue.

The Hillside Estate is the upscale option in the Denton orbit, and we are labeling its location plainly because its own marketing leads with Denton and Dallas. The estate is in Cross Roads, east of Denton along US 380, on 16 acres with views over a valley and lake. That is a real fifteen minute drive from the Denton Square, not a downtown address.

What you get for the drive is scale and finish, a 17,000 square foot building with ballroom and garden ceremony options and a preferred catering roster. If your guest list is coming up from Dallas rather than out of Denton, the extra distance costs your guests almost nothing.

The Springs in Denton carries the Denton name but sits in Aubrey, which is worth knowing before you plan around it. The property holds two distinct buildings. Oakview Lodge is the smaller one, built to feel like a mountain lodge with fireplaces indoors and out and a balcony over the hillside, taking up to 225 guests. Hidden Springs Ranch is the big room, 9,000 square feet of oak floor under open beam trusses, with an outdoor ceremony pavilion and a water feature, and it takes up to 320.

Pricing moves a long way with the calendar. The same room costs very different money in March and in November, and Friday and Sunday dates sit well below Saturday.

This is the practical answer for a wedding where most of the guest list is flying in. The hotel connects to a convention center with about 70,000 square feet of event space, so the ceremony, the reception, the rehearsal dinner and the Sunday brunch can all happen without anyone getting back in a car.

It is a hotel ballroom, so the room itself does less of the work than the Square venues do. What it buys you is logistics. Room blocks, in house catering, parking and an elevator between the reception and the bed.

The Civic Center is a city run facility with roughly 13,000 square feet of space, including a main hall of about 9,000 square feet that seats around 300. It has an on site kitchen, allows alcohol and is wheelchair accessible.

Nobody will tell you it is the prettiest room in Denton. What it is, is the venue that lets you bring your own caterer, your own decor and your own budget, which is exactly the point when the guest list is large and the spend needs to go on food rather than chandeliers. It also sits next to Quakertown Park, which gives you somewhere green for photographs.
